Jackson Height Beautification Group Holiday Lighting 2021
Jackson Height Beautification Group brought together neighbors young and old for a holiday celebration in front of the Jackson Heights post office. Families sipped hot chocolate and ate holiday cookies donated from a local bakery as their kids made holiday ornaments with the help of QBFC volunteers and our #10, Nestor Cabrera. Then, as the sun set, the JHBG members perched on the Post Office steps to sing carols for all to enjoy, ending with the lead organizer Len flipping on the Holiday Lights.

And this year was extra special as Queensboro FC II players joined in the volunteering, coming out on a rare day off from training to help out. The turkey giveaways were expanded to five events over three days and over 2,000 turkeys were given away.

NYC MARATHON 2021
We support our runners! Sunday, Nov 7 we joined our partners at real estate firm Modern Spaces to cheer on marathon runners from near and far, and help others support their athletes too! Members of local running groups like Queens Distance Runners and Run Hustle Run were on our mind as we made a sign for QDR founder Kevin Montalvo (see photo), but so were runners from the world over. Modern Spaces & QBFC helped hundreds of people make creative signs of support for marathoners as they crossed into Queens before running over the Queensboro Bridge. Supporters young and old got creative with their signs and waved them all along Vernon Ave in LIC.

Also pictured are some of the local kiddos from the Halloween parade with Queensboro FC stickers.
QUEENS NIGHT MARKET
We visited the Queens Night Market on their last night of the 2021. The Academy players who came got to try countless international bites at NYC’s premiere food experience, and we connected with QNM Founder John Wang to provide a QBFC Prize Pack to the one of the winners of their Halloween costume competition. Rachel H Smith won the “Most Queens Costume” dressing up as the 34th Ave Open Streets, and Rob McKay of the Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC) was there to present her with the prizes.
DIWALI
Festival of Lights! Diwali is the biggest holiday of the year in India, and the Indo-Carribean Community of Little Guyana in Richmond Hill hosted this 2021’s celebrations as it has for over 20 years. Music, dancing, henna and more filled out this lively festival hosted by the Divya Jyoti Association of New York. The word Diwali comes from the Sanskrit word deepavali, meaning “rows of lighted lamps,” which are lit in honor of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and good fortune. But it’s not just a Hindu holiday, it’s celebrated by Jains, Sikhs, Muslims and some Buddhists too. If you have never been to Little Guyana, go and see the colors and taste the flavors of one of Queens’ most vibrant neighborhoods!
MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER
QBFC joined the American Cancer Society in their biggest Annual Event, a nationwide March called Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. We helped raise money and day of the event we manned two tables to hand out QBFC info and stickers and support the marchers.
